Throughout American history, “We The People” has never truly extended to all Americans. Countless people go without the rights and freedoms the Constitution was supposed to grant them. This injustice, while it has often been addressed, is still a rampant problem today. Each day, Americans all over the country are denied their liberties because of greed and hatred. My piece aims to give voice to all those Lady Liberty stands for, including Black Americans, immigrants, women, convicts, and disabled people. Many groups and individuals have been denied their freedoms for longer than the United States has even existed. It is time the flame is passed, so that all those who call America home can truly live in the land of the free. A country built on coming together in the name of freedom will only truly be whole if every voice is heard.
