Privacy Policy
Updated:
Tapestry of New York (“TNY,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our website and submission platform.
This Children’s Online Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) governs the Tapestry of New York submission platform and related services (the “Site” and/or “Services”) and explains:
- What information we collect from students and educators (and why we collect it)
- How we use and share that information
- The choices available to parents, guardians, and schools, including how to access, update, or delete information
This Policy is intended to comply with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and outlines our practices regarding children under 13 years of age (“Child” or “Children”) in the United States.
What is Tapestry of New York?
Tapestry of New York is a student publishing platform that allows students to submit creative work through an approval-code system provided by teachers, schools, or authorized adults. Approved submissions may be published on the TNY digital showcase.
A Note for School Users
In accordance with COPPA, schools, school districts, teachers, and other educational institutions may act as a parent’s agent and consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of a student’s personal information on the parent’s behalf.
By participating in Tapestry of New York and requesting approval codes, schools provide consent for the collection and use of student information necessary to operate the Services.
This Policy does not govern how schools independently collect or use student information. Parents should contact their child’s school to understand the school’s privacy practices.
To access, update, or delete information collected through a school that cannot be accessed directly through TNY, please contact the school directly.
Information Students Provide
Students access the submission portal using a valid approval code provided by a teacher or authorized adult.
When submitting creative work, students may be asked to provide:
- First name
- Last initial
- Grade level
- School name
- Submission title and project details
- Media files (image, video, text, or other approved formats)
In some cases, the registering teacher or adult may provide:
- School name
- School district
- City, state, and zip code
- Educator contact information
We do not require a child to provide more information than is reasonably necessary to participate.
For students under 13, we rely on school-based consent in accordance with COPPA.
Student Profile and Visibility
When student work is published on the Site:
- Students are identified by first name and last initial
- School name and school location (city/state) may be displayed
- Student email addresses are never publicly displayed
Submissions are intended to be visible to the public once published.
TNY moderates submissions but is not responsible for information voluntarily shared within student-created content.
If a parent or guardian wishes to revoke consent for display of a student’s content, please contact us at:
